Rattie Art

Sandy Polsky is an artist who creates watercolors in her spare time. Sandy said, "Since I was a child, I doodled constantly, and began by drawing cartoons. I created my own comic strip called 'Bobby', which was a Dennis-the-Menace type of character. I even had several published in local newspapers and won a cartoon contest when I was 14. I began drawing dogs and cats from photographs seen in magazines, using charcoals and pastels, and sometimes acrylics. I had an india ink phase, too, for drawing landscapes. About 4 years ago, I tried watercolors and absolutely loved them. I love the way the color bursts outwards in the water -- it looks so exquisite and it gives me a joyous feeling -- and I also enjoyed the challenge of learning to control the paint. I feel like I have come almost full circle since my focus returned to animals.

"In September 2001, I made a lifestyle change as a personal contribution to end animal suffering by consuming plant foods instead of meat and other animal products and by choosing alternatives to using animal products or by-products. My rapid evolution occurred after viewing the compelling video The Witness and thereafter immersing myself in reading an abundance of literature about factory farming. There was no turning back.

"Next I experimented with different vegan recipes to insure an arsenal of good and nutritious meals and attended animal rights conferences to educate myself further.

"Then my watercolors found their direction, and AnimalArt was created. It is my hope that when people view the beauty and spirit of animals through my art, they will feel compassion and their compassion may lead them to vegetarianism, animal activism, and/or animal advocacy.

"Thank you for the privilege of showing you my art and my message. I hope you enjoy the view."

* On the notecards, the designs "Stormy," "Lady," and "Minnie and Shadow," have a notice printed on the backs of the cards on the request of the rats' owner. Here is what the Stormy card says:

This is Stormy. She is not a test tube with whiskers. Guardian: Donna Berriman.
Millions of rats are horrifically destroyed in futile lab experiments every year.

"I abhor vivisection. It should at least be curbed. Better, it should be abolished.

I know of no achievement through vivisection, no scientific discovery

that could not have been obtained without such barbarism and cruelty.

The whole thing is evil." Dr. Charles Mayo (1865-1939), founder of the Mayo Clinic.
